Sierra Leone: As President Koroma Opens Industrial Growth Centre in Bo

His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma has assured the people of Bo in the Southern Region of Sierra Leone that his government will continue to prioritize agriculture in the Agenda for Prosperity.

He made this declaration on the occasion of the formal opening ceremony of the Industrial Growth Centre as well as the handing over of Agricultural Development Assets to District Councils in the Southern Province.

The president said that government will work hard to increase the production of our staple food beyond self-sufficiency, with emphasis on sustainable land and water management to improve yields, promote export crops, promote commercial agriculture along the value chain, link farmers to markets, as well as provide effective rural and agribusiness financing systems that will increase the access of smallholder farmers to finance.

He made this declaration on the occasion of the commissioning ceremony of the Technical Assistance Agency (TAA) Complex in Kenema.

He also said that government will work hard to increase the production of our staple food beyond self-sufficiency, with emphasis on sustainable land and water management to improve yields, promote export crops, promote commercial agriculture along the value chain, link farmers to markets, as well as provide effective rural and agribusiness financing systems that will increase the access of smallholder farmers to finance.

Sierra Leone: 10,000 Acres Needed for Rubber Farming

Monrovia — Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay, Resident Minister East William Juana Smith and senior government officials recently concluded a working tour on the Firestone Rubber Plantation in Monrovia, Liberia.

The minister and his team led by the Chief Executive Officer of an Italian agriculture company, Dr. Edmondo Trombetta and his manager Madam Rebecca Eze held a successful meeting at the Firestone Conference Hall in Harbel. One of the most important issues discussed was the acquisition of some 10 thousand acres of land that will be needed for the company to start operations in Sierra Leone.

After the meeting, the delegates took a tour around the plantation to see the nursery sites, building component, transplanting acres, Firestone wood factory, hospital, other farming areas, the two water/hydro dam and the electricity plants.
